We had plans to go to the waterpark today. It’s the last day for the season. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a chilly rainy 82 degrees here . We opted to clean out the garage, donate some items to the goodwill and treat ourselves to our homemade Caribou Hot Chocolate Drink.
Yes, they’re half empty. I didn’t get the idea to share this until we were well into enjoying it. AND No, it’s not exactly like Caribou’s hot chocolate, it’s actually better! It’s convenient (if you have all the ingrediants on hand), it’s better for you (1 portion = approx. 7 grams of usable protein 16% to 20% of average daily protein needed) , has less sugar, no preservatives and is much cheaper!
4 cups cold milk
3 TBSP carob powder
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 TBSP honey
1 . For a cold froth: blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth and foamy, then serve.
2. For a hot froth: process the ingredients as above; pour the mixture into a saucepan and heat over a medium flame. As you heat the mixture, the volume of the foam will increase as the air inside the bubbles heats, so watch carefully to avoid boil-overs.
Variation – Banana Carob Froth: Omit the honey and blend a whold ripe banana with all of the ingredients in the blender.
What a treat!! An awesome fall drink. This recipe is from Ellen Buchman Ewald’s Recipes for a Small Planet. If you get a chance to try it, I’d love to hear how you liked it!
